PM Modi Meets Iranian President Pezeshkian at SCO Summit in Bishkek

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. The meeting marked the first interaction between the two leaders since the conflict involving Iran began in February, amid attacks by US and Israeli forces against Iran. The meeting comes at a time of heightened geopolitical tensions in West Asia and growing international attention on regional developments.

Details of the discussions between Modi and Pezeshkian have not yet been officially disclosed. However, experts believe the Strait of Hormuz may have been among the key issues discussed, given its strategic importance for energy supplies and regional trade. The Embassy of Iran in India also shared details of the meeting on its social media platforms. During the SCO gathering, Modi also met Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Pezeshkian’s participation in the SCO summit is being closely watched amid speculation that Iran is seeking to strengthen cooperation among countries opposed to US policies.
