The United States launched large-scale military strikes targeting missile launch sites and vessels laying mines at sea, even as it reportedly prepared for a peace agreement in West Asia. The US Central Command stated that the attacks were carried out in self-defense after Iranian forces posed a threat to American naval assets, including two aircraft carriers and over two dozen warships. US officials claimed that a naval base at Bandar Abbas was destroyed, while reports suggest at least four Iranian soldiers were killed in Lark Island. Israel is also reported to have participated in coordinated strikes, including attacks on Hezbollah positions in Lebanon, ahead of scheduled indirect talks in Washington between Lebanon and Israel. Civilian casualties are also reported amid escalating violence.
Iran strongly condemned the attacks, calling them a deliberate betrayal at a time when negotiations were progressing toward a possible agreement. Iranian leadership warned that the United States would be held responsible for the consequences, while Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei issued sharp warnings, stating that West Asia would no longer serve as a protective shield for US military bases. In a parallel development, US President Donald Trump claimed that Iran had agreed in principle to either surrender enriched uranium stockpiles or allow their destruction under international supervision. Iran also claimed it shot down a US MQ-9 Reaper drone and targeted an F-35 fighter jet, escalating tensions further in the region.
