A touching sibling story has emerged from Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, ahead of Raksha Bandhan. Unable to bear watching her younger brother suffer from chronic kidney disease for nearly two and a half years, 45 year old Beena Kumari Gangwar donated one of her kidneys to her 40-year-old brother, Jitendra Singh Gangwar. Jitendra had been undergoing dialysis three times a week, and doctors eventually recommended a kidney transplant.
The transplant was successfully performed at a private hospital in Greater Noida. After the surgery, Jitendra became emotional while speaking about his sister. He said Beena had supported him throughout his illness and had also taken care of his children during his dialysis treatment. He described her kidney donation as a gift of a new life and said he would remain grateful to her for the rest of his life.
Beena Kumari said the decision to donate her kidney did not feel difficult to her. She said she could not simply watch her brother struggle with kidney disease and did not consider the donation a sacrifice. According to her, she was only fulfilling her responsibility and love as an elder sister. The story of the siblings has won widespread appreciation on social media.
