Pavitrotsavam Begins at Indrakeeladri from Today

The annual Pavithrotsavams at the Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam on Vijayawada’s Indrakeeladri hill will begin today as per traditional Agama rituals. The annual festival is conducted to remove ritual errors, impurities and other inadvertent shortcomings that may occur during daily worship and temple services, thereby restoring the sanctity of the temple.

As part of the celebrations, specially prepared sacred garlands made of colourful silk threads will be offered to the presiding deities and other temple deities. Various homams, prayers and Moola Mantra havans will also be performed. At 3 a.m. today, Suprabhata Seva will be conducted at the Sri Kanaka Durga temple, followed by Snapanabhishekam and the sacred garland ceremony. Darshan will remain suspended until these rituals are completed, and Sarva Darshan will resume for devotees after 8 a.m.

The three-day Pavithrotsavams will include ritual activities every day, with darshan temporarily suspended during afternoon pujas. Moola Mantra havans, Vedic recitations and other rituals will be conducted from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Arjitha Sevas will remain temporarily cancelled throughout the three days. Devotees can check darshan timings and online ticket details through the temple’s official website. The sacred garlands offered to the deity will later be distributed to devotees as prasadam.
