Special preparations are underway at the Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha, for the traditional Raksha Bandhan celebrations. On Gamha Purnima, it is customary for Goddess Subhadra to tie rakhis to her brothers, Lord Jagannath and Lord Balabhadra. As part of this tradition, a giant rakhi is reportedly being prepared for Lord Jagannath this year.
Patara artisans are crafting the massive rakhis using Basunga silk threads. They are decorating them in vibrant shades of yellow, red, blue and green to give them a distinctive look. The special rakhis are expected to add to the spiritual and cultural significance of the Raksha Bandhan celebrations at the Puri Jagannath Temple.
