The Delhi High Court has upheld the Central Government’s decision to temporarily restrict access to Telegram ahead of the NEET re-examination. Hearing the matter on Friday, the court observed that the Centre’s action was justified under the prevailing circumstances and found no fault with the emergency measures taken to safeguard the examination process. The bench also noted that the government had followed the procedure prescribed under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act.
NEET is one of India’s most competitive entrance examinations, attracting more than 2 million candidates every year. The controversy erupted after allegations surfaced that the question paper had been leaked before the examination. Reports also suggested that the paper was circulated through certain Telegram channels. In response, the Centre temporarily suspended access to the platform ahead of the June 21 re-exam to prevent misinformation and further leaks. The High Court emphasized that ensuring transparency and fairness in examinations is a legitimate responsibility of the government.
