Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are reportedly looking for a new captain ahead of the IPL 2027 season following the expected departure of Rishabh Pant, who is believed to be returning to his former franchise, Delhi Capitals, after two disappointing seasons with LSG. Among the leading candidates for the captaincy is South Africa's limited-overs captain Aiden Markram, who is currently leading LSG's sister franchise, Manchester Super Giants, in The Hundred tournament in England. His leadership and recent performances have reportedly strengthened his chances of taking over the role.
Responding to speculation, Markram said he is not focused on the captaincy and expressed confidence that the franchise management would make the best decision. He added that LSG has several capable leaders who can successfully guide the team. Apart from Markram, Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran are also being considered for the role, while the franchise could even appoint a new captain through the upcoming mini auction. Speaking about The Hundred, Markram said the tournament's unique format offers exciting tactical challenges and praised experienced players like Jos Buttler for their valuable guidance.
