India head coach Gautam Gambhir has opened up about the mental pressure that comes with managing the national team amid a demanding international cricket schedule. Speaking to the media after the fifth T20I against New Zealand, he admitted that he sometimes feels mentally exhausted. However, he said he knows how to handle pressure and works on keeping his mind and body strong. Gambhir added that he is human too and that there are occasions when everything feels mentally overwhelming. He also made it clear that fear has no place in his dictionary or approach to life, stressing that professionals should not make excuses.
Gambhir acknowledged that being India's head coach is a challenging responsibility, with fans expecting the team to win every match and public attention constantly focused on the coaching staff. Despite the pressure, he said he is enjoying his role and quickly recovers whenever he feels exhausted. India recently won the five-match T20I series against New Zealand 3-2. The ODI series between the teams is scheduled to begin on November 4. Gambhir currently serves as head coach across all three formats, while VVS Laxman takes charge as interim coach when India's teams play separate series simultaneously.
