Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla has called upon people to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi with devotion while giving equal importance to environmental protection. He urged the public to use eco-friendly clay Ganesha idols and cooperate in preventing water pollution. The Governor extended his greetings to people across the country and the people of Telangana on the occasion of the festival. As part of efforts to promote eco-friendly celebrations, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and his wife Janaki Shukla distributed clay Ganesha idols to Lok Bhavan officials, employees and media representatives at the Lok Bhavan premises on Friday.
With the installation of Ganesha idols and puja programmes scheduled to begin from September 14, the Governor stressed the need to focus on environmental protection during the festivities. He urged devotees to use idols made from eco-friendly materials to prevent water bodies from being polluted during immersion. Clay Ganesha idols naturally dissolve in water and can help reduce water pollution, he said. He appealed to people to avoid idols made from Plaster of Paris and chemical-based colours that can contaminate water sources. Shukla also called upon the media to play a key role in creating awareness about eco-friendly celebrations and widely spread the message of using clay idols, conserving water and preventing pollution.
