Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has expressed concern over complaints alleging that IT companies in Bengaluru are treating local candidates unfairly in recruitment. He said the government would take seriously any failure to recognise Kannada as the local language and would not tolerate actions that undermine the dignity, rights or interests of Kannadigas. The issue has gained attention following the circulation of videos on social media concerning employment opportunities for local residents. In a recent post, a woman alleged that her job application had been rejected because she mentioned Kannada in the language section of her résumé. Responding to the controversy on Sunday through the social media platform X, Shivakumar said the government was committed to protecting the interests of local people and ensuring that they were treated fairly in the employment process.
Shivakumar noted that Bengaluru is recognised globally as India’s technology capital and said the government has immense faith in the talent, skills and capabilities of Kannadigas. He warned that strict action would be taken if it was established that private companies were deliberately neglecting local candidates. The Deputy Chief Minister reiterated that the government would continue to respond to concerns raised by residents and safeguard their rights and dignity. His remarks come amid growing public discussion about the representation of local candidates in Bengaluru’s technology sector and the importance of ensuring fair recruitment practices. The government’s response to the allegations is expected to remain a key point of interest as the debate over local employment opportunities continues.
