The Chennai Central Crime Branch (CCB) conducted searches at the residence of former Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi on Wednesday. The searches are part of an ongoing investigation into allegations that large sums of money were collected from private school managements by promising government approvals, permanent recognition, school upgradation and building-related clearances. Police have alleged that more than ₹100 crore was collected in the case.
The investigation follows the earlier arrest of B.T. Arasakumar, who allegedly operated an unregistered organisation under the name Tamil Nadu Private Schools Association and collected money from school managements by promising to secure official approvals. Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged transactions during the period when Anbil Mahesh served as School Education Minister. Searches were also carried out simultaneously at multiple locations linked to him in Chennai and Tiruchirappalli as part of the probe.
