The Centre has given the green light to Uttar Pradesh's first bullet train project, approving the proposed Northern High-Speed Rail Corridor between Delhi and Varanasi. Once operational, the project is expected to reduce travel time between the two cities to just three and a half hours. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the development. The proposed corridor is expected to mark a significant step towards expanding high-speed rail connectivity in Uttar Pradesh and improving transportation between the national capital and the holy city of Varanasi.
The project also aims to make high-speed rail travel more affordable, with ticket prices expected to be lower than airfares. The proposed service is expected to offer passengers a faster and more convenient travel option. Improved connectivity between Delhi and Varanasi could also support economic activity and development along the route. Further details regarding the project's construction schedule and operational timeline are yet to be announced.
