Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president MK Stalin has criticised the government led by Joseph Vijay over a series of incidents in the state, using the titles of popular web series to target its administration. Referring to the recent arrest of a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader from Nagapattinam in an alleged drug trafficking case involving 135 kg of drugs valued at ₹100 crore, Stalin had earlier compared the party to Breaking Bad. Following reports of prisoners escaping from Theni Jail, he has now invoked Prison Break to question the government’s law-and-order record. Stalin alleged that the administration was failing to monitor criminals on bail and was now unable to prevent prisoners from escaping from jails.
Stalin said the Theni incident, in which 17 prisoners reportedly escaped, came soon after two inmates escaped from Puzhal Jail. He claimed that the escape of such a large number of prisoners at once was unprecedented since 1995. Questioning the effectiveness of prison security arrangements and the use of modern technology, he said such incidents were unacceptable. Stalin alleged that criminals were operating freely outside prisons while inmates were escaping from within them. He accused the government of failing to protect the public and remarked that the situation had reached a point where people were being left to protect themselves.
