ASHA workers in Telangana have decided to launch a statewide strike from December 15, demanding better wages and improved employment security. Their key demands include a monthly salary of ₹18,000, job security and access to social security benefits such as Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) and the Provident Fund (PF). Around 28,000 ASHA workers are reportedly serving across the state and are preparing to take part in the proposed strike to press for their demands.
In a significant development, all ASHA workers’ unions in Telangana have reportedly adopted a unanimous resolution in support of the strike, marking a united stand compared with previous protests. The unions are seeking collective action to secure higher wages, employment protection and social security benefits. The proposed strike, scheduled to begin on December 15, could affect ASHA-related services across the state. The government’s response to the workers’ demands remains awaited.
