Unacademy co-founders Gaurav Munjal and Roman Saini are reportedly planning to raise a ₹700 crore venture capital fund named Longshot Capital to invest in early-stage artificial intelligence (AI) and deeptech startups. According to a report by The Economic Times, the Bengaluru-based fund is registered as a Category II Alternative Investment Fund (AIF) and has secured commitments estimated at ₹250–300 crore so far. The fund is targeting its first close in January 2027, although the fundraising amount and timeline may change as discussions with investors continue.
Longshot Capital reportedly plans to invest in 25–28 startups at the seed and pre-Series A stages. Initial investments are expected to range from $500,000 to $1.5 million per company, with a target ownership stake of 8–12%. The proposed fund comes less than two months after upGrad completed its all-stock acquisition of Unacademy, according to the report. If completed as planned, the fund would focus on supporting emerging businesses working on AI and other advanced technologies in India’s startup ecosystem.
