State Bank of India (SBI) Chairman CS Setty has said that the bank’s total business could reach Rs 200 lakh crore by 2030, when it celebrates its 75th anniversary, or Platinum Jubilee. He said the bank could see significant growth if its current growth momentum continues. SBI was established on July 1, 1955, through an Act of Parliament involving the transfer of the operations of the Imperial Bank of India. SBI’s total business crossed the Rs 100 lakh crore milestone for the first time in the second quarter of FY2025–26 and rose to Rs 110.01 lakh crore by the first quarter of the current financial year.
Setty said SBI’s performance is closely linked to the growth of the Indian economy. If the country’s economy grows by 7–8% annually, SBI’s balance sheet could potentially grow at an annual rate of 11–12%, allowing it to double roughly every six years. Based on this growth trajectory, the bank’s total business could reach Rs 170–180 lakh crore by 2030 and potentially touch Rs 200 lakh crore under favourable conditions. He also said SBI is focusing on its Vision 2030 with the aim of expanding operations while balancing the interests of customers, employees, shareholders, the government, the Reserve Bank of India and other regulators.
