Oracle has started another round of layoffs, with affected employees receiving early-morning emails informing them that their positions were being eliminated as part of broader organizational changes. Reports on September 14 said employees received the so-called “6 AM” emails, while some affected workers shared their experiences on LinkedIn, Reddit and Blind. Oracle has not officially disclosed the total number of employees affected in the latest round. The new cuts follow an earlier reduction of around 21,000 jobs in 2026, representing roughly 13% of the company’s workforce.
The layoffs come as Oracle is simultaneously making an aggressive push into AI and cloud infrastructure. In the first quarter of fiscal 2027, Oracle spent $28.5 billion on capital expenditure, compared with $8.5 billion in the same quarter a year earlier. The company also signed more than $30 billion in new AI cloud contracts during the quarter, taking its remaining performance obligations to $664 billion. Oracle has maintained its full-year capital expenditure outlook of around $90 billion-$95 billion, highlighting the scale of its AI infrastructure expansion.
