Tech giant Microsoft has created a historic record in the stock market as its shares surged 15.5% in a single trading session. The company’s market capitalization increased by nearly $450 billion (around ₹39 lakh crore) in one day, marking the biggest ever single day gain by a listed company. Microsoft surpassed Nvidia’s previous record of around $441 billion.
The major reason behind the sharp rise in Microsoft shares was the company’s strong quarterly results. In the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2026, Microsoft’s revenue increased 18% to reach $90 billion. The impressive growth of its cloud business, Azure, beyond market expectations boosted investor confidence.
Azure cloud revenue grew 43% year on year during the quarter and crossed the milestone of $100 billion in annual revenue for the first time. Microsoft’s total cloud business revenue also surpassed $200 billion annually. Following the rally on July 30, Microsoft’s market capitalization reached around $3.35 trillion, while Nvidia continues to lead with a market value of over $5 trillion.
