Petrol and diesel prices across the country have remained stable for the past several weeks. However, concerns arose recently after the central government announced an increase of ₹2 per litre in excise duty on petrol and diesel, triggering fears of a price hike among vehicle owners.
To address these concerns, the Centre clarified that the increased excise duty would not burden the public. The government stated that oil marketing companies would absorb the additional cost, ensuring that retail fuel prices would not rise immediately. This announcement brought relief to consumers.
Many motorists were hopeful that fuel prices might change at the beginning of the month, as revisions often occur on the first day. However, with no change announced this month either, expectations were left unmet. Still, the continued stability in fuel prices is being seen as a positive development amid inflation concerns.
Future price movements are expected to depend on global crude oil trends and policy decisions taken by the central government.
