The Central Government has announced new export duties on petroleum products including petrol, diesel, and Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF). Petrol exports will attract a duty of ₹4 per litre, while diesel will be charged ₹8.5 per litre and ATF ₹7.5 per litre. The revised rates will come into effect from July 1.
The government stated that these measures are aimed at preventing any domestic fuel shortage amid the ongoing West Asia crisis. However, exports to countries such as Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, and Maldives will be exempted from the new duties. The Centre also clarified that there is no change in excise duty on fuel used for domestic consumption.
