Cockroach Janata Party founder Abhijeet Deepke has shared how Shah Rukh Khan’s Swades played an important role in shaping his journey towards public service. Inspired by the film’s message of returning to one’s roots and serving the community, Deepke said he launched the ‘School Theek Karo’ campaign in his hometown on Independence Day.
As part of the initiative, Deepke visited government schools in his native village in Maharashtra’s Hingoli district and highlighted the lack of basic facilities, including adequate benches, drinking water, windows and toilets. He said the campaign aims to address shortcomings in the education system and create meaningful change at the grassroots level.
Deepke recalled being deeply moved by Mohan’s character in Swades, particularly the scenes showing the struggles of villagers and children deprived of education. He said the film had a lasting impact on him and strengthened his desire to contribute to his own community.
The ‘School Theek Karo’ campaign is being taken forward as part of his wider efforts to highlight problems in the education system. Deepke said getting an opportunity to serve his hometown after returning from the United States felt like completing a circle inspired by the film’s message. He also expressed gratitude for the support from people and pledged to continue working for meaningful change.
