The Tata Sons Annual General Meeting (AGM), scheduled for August 18, is facing uncertainty after the Sir Ratan Tata Trust (SRTT), a key shareholder in the Tata Group’s holding company, was unable to nominate its representative due to restrictions imposed by the Maharashtra Charity Commissioner. Although the company is reportedly planning to proceed with the AGM, the meeting could be adjourned if the required quorum is not met. Shareholders have not been informed of any change to the scheduled date.
The AGM was expected to consider the directorship of Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran, who has decided not to seek another term after his current tenure ended in February, along with other matters. However, the SRTT board could not meet following the Charity Commissioner’s directions, preventing it from jointly nominating a representative with the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust (SDTT). The nomination is required to meet the AGM quorum under Tata Sons’ Articles of Association, adding uncertainty over whether the meeting can proceed as scheduled.
