Novak Djokovic suffered a shock defeat at the Cincinnati Open, losing to Argentina’s Thiago Agustin Tirante in the second round. Djokovic started strongly and won the opening set 6-2, but Tirante made a strong comeback and took the next two sets 6-4, 6-4 to seal a memorable victory.
The match was also challenging for Djokovic physically. The Serbian struggled in Cincinnati’s hot and humid conditions and appeared to be unwell during the contest. His early exit has raised questions about his fitness ahead of the US Open.
This was Djokovic’s first tournament appearance since Wimbledon. With the US Open approaching, the Serbian star will now look to recover, regain his rhythm and prepare for the Grand Slam challenge.
