Zoho co-founder Sridhar Vembu has announced that Arattai, the homegrown Indian messaging app, will soon implement end-to-end encryption for chat messages. Until now, this feature was only available for calls. The rollout, initially planned for November, has been accelerated and is currently in testing.Vembu explained that end-to-end encryption keeps user data on devices, minimizing cloud storage and lowering server costs. Unlike Zoho Cliq, which relies on cloud storage for business features like search and archiving, Arattai will focus on privacy-first messaging.
Apart from encryption, Arattai also offers innovative features that differentiate it from WhatsApp:
Pocket: A personal cloud storage for messages, media, and notes, easily accessible across devices.
No Forced AI: Unlike WhatsApp’s Meta AI integration, Arattai keeps the chat experience clean.
Meetings: Users can create or join meetings directly in the app, eliminating the need for Zoom or Google Meet.
Positioned as a “WhatsApp killer” in India, Arattai aims to compete with global tech giants while offering privacy and unique functionality for its users.
