Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has cautioned enterprises against adopting artificial intelligence without protecting their intellectual property and institutional knowledge. In a post on X, Nadella introduced the concept of the "Reverse Information Paradox," arguing that companies effectively pay for AI twice—once by purchasing AI services and again by sharing proprietary workflows, expertise, decision-making processes, and internal knowledge to improve AI performance.
Nadella said organizations must safeguard their competitive advantage by maintaining control over their evaluation systems, enterprise data, feedback, and institutional memory. He also advocated building private AI learning environments, reducing dependence on a single AI model, and creating flexible AI infrastructure that allows businesses to switch between models efficiently. According to Nadella, companies that protect and continuously develop their own learning systems will gain a sustainable advantage in the AI era.
