Oppo is reportedly conducting widespread layoffs in Realme India, absorbing its sales and support teams as part of a consolidation effort to lower overall business costs. This development comes just a month after Realme agreed to rejoin Oppo as its sub brand, with the companies citing resource pooling and overhead reduction as key reasons. Initial layoffs are focused on sales and support teams, while other divisions may face restructuring in the coming months.
Employees affected by the restructuring have reportedly been asked to resign by April 30. Realme’s sales teams are expected to operate under the revised structure immediately. The layoffs are seen as a natural outcome of merging multiple business verticals, including sales, support, product, and research & development, to create a more efficient and optimised system for bringing new smartphones to market.
Realme’s reunion with Oppo marks a unique event in the smartphone industry. Founded in 2018 by Sky Li, Realme initially operated alongside Oppo under BBK Electronics before becoming independent. Following the recent re-merger, both Realme and OnePlus are set to operate under Oppo’s control, with consolidation expected to enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs. No official confirmation has yet been provided regarding Li’s role in managing the sub brands.
