Happy Birthday Abhishek Sharma:From Teen Prodigy to T20 Sensation

Abhishek Sharma has rapidly transformed himself into one of India’s most exciting T20 batters. The 26-year-old made his international debut in July 2024 and has since become a regular presence in India’s shortest-format plans. His explosive 135 off just 54 balls against England in February last year propelled him into the spotlight and helped him rise to the top of the ICC T20I rankings. During the Asia Cup, he further showcased his attacking style by scoring 314 runs in seven matches at a strike rate of 200. His 61 against Sri Lanka helped him reach a record ICC rating of 931 points, surpassing the previous mark of 919 held by England’s Dawid Malan. He also became the first batter to score more than 1,000 runs in a calendar year at a strike rate above 200.

Yuvraj Singh has been one of the biggest influences on Abhishek’s cricketing journey. He trained under the former India all-rounder during the Covid period and continues to seek his guidance. Abhishek’s admiration for Yuvraj and Brian Lara is reflected in his aggressive approach. However, his ability is not limited to batting, as he can contribute with his left-arm spin as well. He started playing cricket at a very young age, with his father Raj Kumar’s domestic cricket experience providing an early foundation. Abhishek impressed at junior level, made his IPL debut at 17 and was initially picked by Delhi Daredevils.
