BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has heaped praise on teenage batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who has already made an impact on the international stage at a very young age. Speaking to reporters after the BCCI review meeting, Saikia said the board is proud to have given a 15-year-old an opportunity in international cricket. He advised Vaibhav not to become a player remembered for just a few matches or a single series, but to focus on building a long and successful career. Saikia suggested that the youngster take inspiration from Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and added that the BCCI would closely monitor his development and future.
Meanwhile, India are reportedly considering an ODI series against South Africa ahead of next year’s World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe. Team management is said to have discussed the possibility with the South African board, with the proposed series potentially featuring four to six matches. Player fitness was also a key issue discussed during the BCCI review meeting. The board is expected to maintain a strict approach towards the fitness standards of Indian players as it prepares the team for upcoming international assignments and the 2027 ODI World Cup.
