Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella opened the Build 2026 developer conference by unveiling a series of major artificial intelligence initiatives aimed at strengthening the company’s position in the rapidly evolving AI landscape. The company introduced MAI-Code-1-Flash, its first reasoning AI model capable of generating software code from written instructions. Microsoft said the model is designed to deliver high performance at lower operational costs, marking a significant step toward reducing its reliance on OpenAI and expanding its own AI ecosystem.
Microsoft also announced Project Soltera, an Android-based platform built for a multi-agent AI future, along with Microsoft Scout, an always-on AI assistant designed to help users manage meetings, schedules, and emails. In addition, the company showcased Majorana 2, its next-generation quantum computing chip, which it claims is significantly more reliable than its predecessor. Through these innovations, Microsoft aims to gain greater control over the entire AI stack, from hardware and cloud infrastructure to AI models and end-user applications.
