Instagram has rolled out an important update for its users by introducing new rules on hashtag usage. The move aims to improve content quality and enhance user experience on the platform. As per the latest guidelines, users must now limit the number of hashtags used in posts and reels.
According to the new rule, creators can use a maximum of five hashtags per post or reel. Instagram has officially confirmed this change. Previously, users were allowed to add up to 30 hashtags to a single post, but this option has now been restricted.
The platform also clarified that using targeted and relevant hashtags is more effective than adding general or unrelated ones. Users are advised to choose hashtags that directly match their content instead of overcrowding posts with unnecessary tags.
Hashtags were first introduced on Instagram in 2011 and quickly became a popular tool for increasing reach. Over time, excessive hashtag usage became common among content creators. With this update, Instagram is encouraging creators to focus more on meaningful content rather than relying heavily on hashtags for visibility.
