Google Maps is reportedly working on a new artificial intelligence feature that will make editing place listings easier and more user-friendly. According to reports, Google plans to upgrade the existing “Suggest an edit” option by integrating it with its Gemini AI. This update is expected to introduce a conversational interface, allowing users to correct or update information about shops, businesses, and locations on Maps using natural language.
At present, the “Suggest an edit” feature depends heavily on manual inputs and multiple steps, which can sometimes result in errors or incomplete updates. Since Google Maps relies on crowdsourced data to keep listings accurate, the company is now aiming to simplify this process. With Gemini integration, users will be able to type their changes as simple prompts, and the AI will understand the intent and context to apply the edits more efficiently.
The feature was reportedly spotted during an APK teardown of Google Maps version 26.05.04.860829830 by Android Authority and is not yet available to the public. This move aligns with Google’s recent efforts to bring Gemini-powered features into Maps, including voice-based AI assistance for walking and cycling navigation. Once rolled out, the AI-driven editing tool could significantly improve accuracy and user participation on the platform.
