Apple has released its latest environmental progress report, highlighting a significant increase in the use of recycled materials across its devices. The company is actively reducing its dependence on newly mined resources and focusing on reusing existing materials. This shift requires large-scale coordination across global supply chains and marks a major step toward minimizing environmental impact.
The report reveals that 30 percent of the materials used in Apple products last year came from recycled sources. The company now uses 100 percent recycled cobalt in its batteries, fully recycled aluminum in MacBook and iPad enclosures, and recycled rare earth elements in device magnets. Even gold used in circuit boards is sourced entirely from recycled materials, ensuring sustainability without compromising product quality.
To support this effort, Apple uses advanced recycling robots like Daisy, Cora, Dave, and Taz, which carefully disassemble old devices to recover valuable materials. These recovered components are reused in new products, reducing waste. Alongside this, Apple aims to achieve full carbon neutrality by the end of the decade by using renewable energy and investing in clean power solutions.
