India captain Shreyas Iyer expressed deep disappointment after his side's crushing defeat to England cricket team in the third T20I. Calling it an "extremely poor performance," Iyer admitted that losing by such a huge margin was unacceptable. He said the bowlers failed to execute their plans despite the pitch offering assistance to hard-length deliveries, while the batters could not adopt the right approach during the run chase.
Reflecting on the defeat, Iyer pointed out that conceding 200 runs at Trent Bridge was far from ideal. He also highlighted the loss of crucial wickets during the powerplay as the turning point of the match. Stressing the importance of adapting to match situations, the skipper said planning alone is not enough unless it is executed on the field. He urged the team to accept the setback, move on, and bounce back stronger. With this defeat, India recorded their biggest-ever loss by runs in T20Is, surpassing the previous 80-run defeat against New Zealand in 2019.
