Prime Video’s The Revolutionaries is creating buzz with its trailer, which introduces a lesser-known chapter from India’s freedom struggle. Directed by Nikkhil Advani, the period drama focuses on young revolutionaries who fought against British rule and highlights their sacrifices, friendships, fears and emotional struggles. Bhuvan Bam plays Rash Behari Bose, Rohit Saraf portrays Sachindra Nath Sanyal, Gurfateh Pirzada appears as Bagha Jatin and Pratibha Ranta plays Pratibha Lahiri.
The casting has received positive attention, especially among younger audiences. However, some Bengali viewers have questioned why prominent Bengali characters were not played by Bengali actors. At the same time, Bengali audiences are expressing pride that the series brings the important role of Bengal in India’s freedom movement to a wider audience. The trailer also hints at references to the Ghadar movement and the Komagata Maru incident. The series is produced by Monisha Advani and Madhu Bhojwani under the Emmay Entertainment banner and will premiere on September 11 in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Bengali.
Note: The concerns regarding the casting reflect audience discussions and opinions. The series’ creative casting decisions remain with the makers.
