The excitement for Indian Premier League 2026 has begun and fans are eagerly waiting for the matches. Amid this, a major update has come from Bangladesh. The newly appointed Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan confirmed that there are no restrictions on broadcasting the IPL in the country. He clearly stated that the government does not want to mix sports with politics and is open to allowing any channel to telecast the tournament.
Earlier, the previous interim government led by Muhammad Yunus had imposed a ban on IPL broadcasts. This decision came amid tensions related to issues involving Bangladeshi cricketer Mustafizur Rahman and his association with Kolkata Knight Riders. There was opposition after he was bought for a high price in the IPL auction and later the Board of Control for Cricket in India reportedly asked the franchise to release him, which added to the controversy.
Now, the new government has made it clear that the earlier orders are no longer valid. International networks like Star Sports can broadcast IPL matches in Bangladesh without any restrictions. This decision has brought relief to cricket fans in the country, who can now enjoy the tournament without any interruptions.
