Former Indian badminton star Saina Nehwal has said that India needs to strengthen its position in global sports by consistently featuring among the leading nations in international medal tables. With the country hosting several major international sporting events, she stressed the need for India to convert its growing sporting infrastructure and opportunities into better medal-winning performances. Saina said achieving a stronger position in global rankings would be an important indicator of India’s progress as a sporting nation.
Speaking at an event on Saturday, Saina also highlighted the significant transformation in women’s participation in Indian sports. She said women athletes have increasingly recognised their own abilities and are coming forward with greater confidence to compete at the highest level. According to the former shuttler, the change witnessed over the past decade has been substantial, with more women pursuing sporting careers and making their presence felt on the international stage.
