Indian captain Rohit Sharma answered critics who have often questioned his agility on the field with a brilliant piece of fielding during the first ODI against New Zealand. Positioned at short leg on the leg side, Rohit displayed excellent reflexes to stop the ball and produce a superb throw that resulted in a crucial run-out. His sharp fielding effort helped India dismiss New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell, who scored 28 runs.
The dismissal took place in the 21.1st over of New Zealand's innings, bowled by Axar Patel. Glenn Phillips played the delivery, and the batters attempted to steal an unnecessary single. Rohit quickly collected the ball and fired an accurate throw towards the stumps, catching Mitchell short of his crease. His impressive effort not only provided India with an important breakthrough but also silenced questions surrounding his fielding abilities.
