Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has revealed the two captains he admired the most during his career, naming former India skippers Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni as his favourites. He shared this during a recent question-and-answer session on Reddit, responding to a fan’s query. Tendulkar also spoke about his experience as India’s Test captain, the challenges associated with the role and his views on South African captain Temba Bavuma’s leadership.
Tendulkar described leading the Indian team as a great honour but admitted that he did not always have complete freedom in selecting the players he wanted. He observed that the BCCI has become a more professional organisation compared to the 1990s, when Indian cricket faced several difficult situations. He also praised Bavuma’s determination and leadership, saying South Africa’s success in winning an ICC title was a positive development for world cricket. Tendulkar played in the 2003 ODI World Cup final under Ganguly and won the 2011 World Cup under Dhoni. He led India in 25 Test matches across two stints between 1996 and 2000. Following India’s home Test series defeat to South Africa in 2000, he stepped down as captain. Although he was later offered the Test captaincy again in 2007, Tendulkar declined, and the responsibility was eventually handed to Dhoni.
