Pakistan U19 Team Mistaken for Illegal Immigrants in England

Pakistan’s Under-19 cricket team faced an embarrassing and unexpected situation during its tour of England after a group of anti-immigration protesters reportedly mistook the players for illegal immigrants. The incident occurred in Portsmouth, in southern England, when the team arrived at a hotel ahead of a scheduled match. After seeing the players getting off their bus and entering the hotel, around 40 protesters gathered outside and began demonstrating. The situation briefly turned tense before local authorities intervened and explained that the group comprised members of the Pakistan U19 cricket team who were in England for a sporting assignment.

Local councillor George Madgwick spoke to the Pakistan team’s coach before approaching the protesters and explaining the misunderstanding. He said the incident appeared to have been triggered by a photograph shared online, which was allegedly accompanied by misleading information about foreigners arriving at the hotel. Once the protesters were informed that the visitors were cricketers, they left the area within a few minutes. Portsmouth North MP Amanda Martin also expressed concern over the spread of misinformation and called for efforts to prevent false information from circulating online.
