Pakistan has officially been eliminated from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 following today’s (February 28, 2026) crucial Super-8 match against Sri Lanka. To stay in the semi-final race, Pakistan needed to restrict Sri Lanka to under 147 runs. However, Sri Lankan batters surpassed the target, scoring 148 runs, which left Pakistan trailing in net run rate and ended their campaign. This result allowed New Zealand to qualify for the semi-finals.
Pakistan’s bowlers were unable to contain Sri Lanka, who came out to chase a big total. Sri Lankan batter Pawan Ratnayake played a brilliant half-century, effectively dashing Pakistan’s hopes. As a result, Pakistan lost its chance to advance to the semi-finals, regardless of the match outcome.
From Group 2, England and New Zealand have secured semi-final spots, while South Africa has already qualified from Group 1. The fourth semi-finalist will be determined tomorrow (March 1) in the match between India and the West Indies.
