Iran played out a 2-2 draw against New Zealand in a FIFA World Cup 2026 group-stage match in Los Angeles on Monday. However, the focus shifted away from the result after Iran head coach Amir Ghalenoei alleged that the team was instructed to leave the United States immediately after the match. According to the coach, the players were denied adequate time for recovery and were asked to travel directly to their training base in Tijuana, Mexico, creating additional challenges for the squad.
Ghalenoei expressed disappointment over what he described as unfair treatment during the tournament, claiming Iran is one of the most disadvantaged teams in the competition. The coach also highlighted the absence of several key officials, support staff, and media representatives who reportedly could not join the team due to visa-related issues. With Iran scheduled to face Belgium in its next match in Los Angeles, the situation has sparked discussions about logistical arrangements and the team's preparations during the tournament.
