The life story of legendary Carnatic musician and Bharat Ratna awardee M.S. Subbulakshmi is set to be brought to the big screen. An official announcement has been made for the upcoming biopic, which has been titled ‘MS Subbulakshmi Amma’. Rashmika Mandanna will portray the iconic singer in the film and has reportedly already undergone a look test for the role. The project will be launched grandly in Chennai on September 16, marking M.S. Subbulakshmi’s 116th birth anniversary. Legendary actor Kamal Haasan is expected to attend the launch as the chief guest.
The biopic will be directed by Gautham Tinnanuri, with star music composer Anirudh Ravichander scoring the music. The film is being produced by Geetha Arts and will be launched as ‘MS – A Legacy On Screen’. The makers said the event will celebrate M.S. Subbulakshmi’s extraordinary musical legacy. Sai Pallavi, Rukmini Vasanth and Keerthy Suresh were initially among the names reportedly considered for the role, but Rashmika was eventually finalised. The combination of Rashmika, Gautham Tinnanuri and Anirudh has further raised expectations for the prestigious biopic.
