India Women Refuse Asia Cup Trophy From Mohsin Naqvi

India’s women’s cricket team completed a dominant Asia Cup campaign by remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament and winning the title for a record eighth time. However, the trophy presentation attracted attention after the players declined to receive the trophy from Asian Cricket Council president Mohsin Naqvi. Head coach Amol Muzumdar said the team’s achievement was what mattered most and that the players were not concerned about whether they received the trophy from Naqvi. He made it clear that refusing the presentation was in line with the BCCI’s position.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia also defended the team’s decision, saying the circumstances between India and Pakistan had changed following the Pahalgam incident. He explained that while the government’s policy allows India to participate in international tournaments alongside all countries, the board did not want trophies presented by leaders it considers to be acting against India’s interests. The same stance was taken by the Indian men’s team after winning the Asia Cup last year. Naqvi’s presence at Sunday’s women’s final resulted in a similar situation, with the players and BCCI officials staying away from the presentation podium. India defeated Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the final, with strong performances from Shafali Verma, Smriti Mandhana, Telugu player Sricharani and Deepti Sharma.
