India Eyes Historic First Women’s T20 World Cup Title in England

The countdown to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 has begun, with Team India set to launch its campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on June 14 at Edgbaston, Birmingham. Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, India enters the tournament with high expectations after impressive performances in recent years. Victories against strong teams like England and Australia, along with the success of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), have strengthened the squad’s confidence heading into the global event.

India faces a challenging Group A that includes Australia, South Africa, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands. Key players such as Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma, Richa Ghosh, and Shafali Verma will play crucial roles in the team’s quest for a maiden T20 World Cup title. Meanwhile, Smriti Mandhana is just 167 runs away from reaching 4,500 T20I runs, while Arundhati Reddy needs only two wickets to complete 50 T20I wickets. Having finished runners-up in 2020, India is determined to go one step further and lift its first-ever Women’s T20 World Cup trophy.
