CCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar was reportedly offered a significantly higher remuneration when he took charge of the senior men's selection committee in 2023. Contemporary reports said the annual pay for the chairman of selectors was raised from ₹1 crore to ₹3 crore when Agarkar was appointed. However, the ₹3 crore figure was reported by media outlets and was not officially announced by the BCCI as Agarkar's salary. The BCCI officially confirmed his appointment as chairman of the senior men's selection committee in July 2023.
The chief selector's responsibilities include selecting India's senior men's squads across formats and making key decisions on team composition and player transitions ahead of major international tournaments. Agarkar brings considerable playing experience to the role, having represented India in 26 Tests, 191 ODIs and four T20Is. He was also part of India's victorious squad at the inaugural 2007 T20 World Cup.
