India all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been sidelined from international cricket due to recurring injuries over the past few months. With the 2027 ODI World Cup approaching, fans are eagerly waiting for his return to the national team. India captain Shubman Gill has now provided an update on Pandya’s comeback, stating that the all-rounder will have to play domestic cricket and prove his match fitness before returning to international duties. Gill also revealed that Pandya suffered another fitness setback just before his anticipated return through India A matches.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of India's five-match ODI series against New Zealand, Gill highlighted Pandya's importance to the team. He said Pandya's return would help settle the No. 7 and No. 8 positions and make India's batting line-up more balanced. Gill also praised his ability to bowl with both the new and old ball. Discussing the batting order, he confirmed that Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer and he would form the top four, while Axar Patel and KL Rahul could be used in the middle order depending on the match situation.
