Glenn Maxwell has officially announced that he will not be participating in the IPL 2026 auction. He took to social media to express his emotional reaction, saying that the decision was taken with “immense gratitude”. Saying that the IPL has shaped him not only as a cricketer but also as a person, Maxwell recalled that he was released by Punjab Kings after the IPL 2025 season. He said that the passion of the Indian fans and the wonderful moments spent with his teammates will never be forgotten. After stars like Faf du Plessis and Moeen Ali also pulled out of the IPL 2026 mini auction, Maxwell’s decision has sparked further debate.
In his long IPL career, Maxwell scored 2,819 runs in 141 matches, at a strike rate of over 155. He represented teams like Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals. He is known for his excellent hitting as well as inconsistent form. Maxwell, who has always been one of the top earners in the IPL auctions, was snapped up by RCB in 2021 for ₹14.25 crore. Although he won the IPL title in 2013 with Mumbai Indians, he was not a key player at that time. Now that the future of the IPL seems uncertain, there is growing interest among fans as to whether he will register for the PSL 2026 season.
