Bangladesh created history in ODI cricket by defeating Australia after a gap of 21 years. In the first ODI of the three match series played in Dhaka, Bangladesh registered a convincing 86 run victory (DLS method) against the Australian side.
Batting first, Bangladesh posted 284/8 in 50 overs, powered by Mushfiqur Rahim (86 not out), Najmul Hossain Shanto (67), and Tanzid Hasan (54). In reply, Australia were reduced to 191/9 in 42.2 overs before rain interrupted play. After DLS calculation, Bangladesh were declared winners by 86 runs. For Australia, Alex Carey (47), Cameron Green (52 not out), and Cooper Connolly (35) were the top scorers. Bangladesh bowlers Nahid Rana (4 wickets) and Mustafizur Rahman (2 wickets) played a key role.
