Former India captain Rohit Sharma continues to remain active on the field at the age of 39 and appears slimmer than before. This has led to speculation that he began focusing on fitness only recently. However, former India conditioning and strength coach Soham Desai dismissed those claims, explaining that Rohit has been working consistently on his fitness for years. Rohit suffered a serious hip injury in 2017 during the Champions Trophy period and underwent surgeries. Since then, he has reportedly been undertaking strength-training sessions at least twice a week to manage the injury and maintain his physical condition. Desai said Rohit’s long career, run-scoring record and leadership in the IPL reflect his commitment and hard work.
Desai also highlighted the differences between Rohit Sharma’s and Virat Kohli’s fitness routines. According to him, Rohit focuses more on strength-based training, while Kohli’s routine involves more weightlifting. Because of his hip injury, Rohit needs to avoid certain types of weight training. Rohit, who currently plays only ODI cricket, is targeting a place in India’s squad for next year’s 50-over World Cup.
