India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has recovered from his injury but is yet to achieve the match fitness required to return to action, bowling coach Morne Morkel confirmed. As a result, Kishan will miss the third T20I against New Zealand as well, with the BCCI medical team continuing to monitor his condition. His absence could provide another opportunity for young batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi. India currently lead the five-match T20I series 2–0 and will aim to secure the series with a victory in the third game.
Morkel also addressed the discussion surrounding Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s return, saying the experienced bowler should be given time to settle back into international cricket. He noted that conditions at the international level differ from those in the IPL. Explaining Prince’s selection over Mayank in the second T20I, Morkel highlighted Prince’s ability to bowl yorkers and perform in the death overs. He also warned that strong winds in Wellington could pose a challenge during the match, adding that the team had prepared its plans and players to deal with the conditions.
